Probably the worst case was a much linked Guardian story about the Pope visiting the Philippines. The story focused on the Manila government getting beggars off the streets. The article had many pictures of children, many malnourished, in chains or confined in squalid conditions. The problem was that these children were not Filipino but Cambodian and the photos were evidence collected as part of a Cambodian government crackdown on unscrupulous orphanages and those renting out children to sex tourists.
I know this boy, and I know his family. They do not like that his image is being used in fake news, especially since their son died a tragic death in the George Floyd riots in Milwaukee and Seattle.
