In a communist state, there are only two groups. Government group and worker group. Government owns all the businesses,land,military,media,education institutes,transport etc. Workers are just people who did not make it into the Government or people who are against Government. If Govt. wants workers to work 16 hours a day everyday for ever for peanuts, workers should do it else get killed.
If America becomes a communist state, Government group will consist of democrats,racial minorities,sexual minorities,religious minorities etc. and worker group will consist of everyone else.

In a communist state, there is only one group: the government. Anything that is not an extension of that is eradicated. The government is the organism, and the workers, etc are but cells in that organism.
If something dares to question or challenge its relationship to that organism, it is removed and neutralized. That is why there is no room for families or family values in a communist state, as those would challenge fealty to the government.
What you described is more like socialism, which is a necessary step on the road to communism.

There will only be two distinct groups, the ruling bureaucrats and the enslaved proletariat. The division of peoples is only needed during the revolutionary stage. There will be no more LGBT groups, civil rights groups, religions etc. the 'dividers' are considered dangerous to the 'unity of the state' once the revolution is accomplished. Study any communist regime from the past and see how activism and political opposition was treated.
It's going to be not much different than the current situation except government will have far more control on our lives. It is already beginning with the merging of corporations and government. The push toward a single collective value system. The ability to disagree with the collective is not going to be tolerated and the government will use its power to force its value system on you and your family one way or another.
They'd do it slower though. They'd give us an illusion of freedom so we don't fight back. They'd say we have businesses, they just can't be opened right now etc. They'd slowly take more rights away, then they'd initiate another phase. There's periods of more advancement like when they stage and fake shit, for taking our guns. Then there's the slow "No everything is okay" stage and everything pretends like things are okay while putting more trust and reliance in the government because they have to. There's a lot to it. A good socialism documentary mixed stories from people of that era gives good insight
They will kill you or penalize you for openly opposing the system.
They will try to convince you they listen to the requests and well being of the collective worker class, but they don't really give two shits. They just want to know, what is the BARE minimum they can give you without having you rebel and for you to continue to call them your supreme overlords.
Everything is owned by government, so don't think for a second being a rich trillionaire CEO multi corporation owner puts you in the same realm as the overlords. They can wake up think you're a problem, take your business and install another puppet. You're dispensable. Enjoy life while the CCP allows you to live it.

They like to give you a sense of personal ownership, and have you take personal responsibility, but it all doesn't matter because it really all belongs to the government or to benefit the CCP.
