The world is a mess, I don't think we can view the world anymore as Left versus Right. The fight is Nationalists versus Globalists and AMLO is a nationalist but also he is a classic liberal, not far left, so he is very pro free speech and liberties in general.
There's alternatives scales that better describes the situation, for instance the 2 dimensional one with left - right on X axis, and authoritarian - libertarian on the Y axis. Still not perfect but better.
Only using left - right is crazy because both sides has borrowed stuff from each others, it's a complete mess really. Seems like we're just rotating, left hat moved up to authoritarian (a totalitarian state basically), while the right has moved down to libertarian (free speech, freedom in general). But in the sense of traditional right and left we're all centrists now.
"Right" would be Somalia, a country that has no government at all and anarchy capitalism.
"Left" would be north Korea, a country where the state owns everything.
A lot of people outside of US want you to be stable and prospering country. You are important trade partner for most of the world and dollar is international currency. Oh and one more thing, communism tends to spread and everybody who is not stupid hates that shit.
Tells me that Mexico a country where political corruption is a tradition is less corrupt than the US Congress. Oh and as an aside, once biden reopens the borders and all the scum bags come to the US Mexico might be a better place to live
It tells me that ideology is less important than a leader who genuinely cares for his country and wants its people to prosper because he sees himself solely as a member of that country.
Compare that to the ethnic enclaves formed by mass immigration and the dual citizens occupying America and you begin to see the problem.
