Seems it would be easier to just not transmit the message on Verizon's system then it would be to update a billion phones.
They couldn't shut that down if they wanted to.
Cellphones are complex, a phone from japan don't work here, and vice versa, because of how the systems are setup.
Apple can only modify the software on their phones, an nobody updates right away.
