This is unfortunately true. However, it's not so easy to address as you can see from Jan 6th. The successful completion of a peaceful protest now has certain constraints.

How do we circumvent a media that smears, fabricates, and covers its own side while calling the relatively peaceful side, "terrorists"? It is unfortunately a question of who is writing the story. We go out and protest, they write more slander, thereby "legitimizing" further punitive measures on individual rights. Even the most peaceful Trump protests will be turned against us. The public opinion is on their side, regardless of what the "truth" of the situation is. The public is fickle, they see what they see.

If there's one takeaway that everyone on this site can take, is this : "Truth" doesn't matter in politics. What matters is public influence and public perception. This is why you see all of these companies jumping on the bandwagon to support the evisceration of free speech. Everyone wants to be seen as one of the "good guys" so that they can dodge their politicians' ire.

In my view, the only way to get around this, is pure strategy. That's it. Running around protesting (without some form of plan) in an environment that has only goal, your demise, is suicidal.

It's the equivalent of a witch hunt.
