Everyone has become self-important. Its a result of all the social media. Look at even the active and retired generals who all think they're smarter than the president and are willing to publicly speak out-- when in actuality it doesn't matter if they are smarter or not -- they are under the President's command. If they don't want to be, they can retire or become the President. If they're so smart they can figure out how to do that!
