Predators go where they have access. In the 1980's that could have been the church. Maybe Boy Scouts. Schools.

Then the internet arrived. Far more access can be found in silicon valley tech companies. With the worlds content flooding through their offices that's an obvious place they might hide. These companies will even pay people to review reported content, no legal questions asked. And normal people would suffer stress being subjected to that content day after day.

Consider the case of Peter Bright. Writing for Ars Technica he had wide access to tech giants. He was in the club. While posting horrific statements to his company forums and his social network accounts open to the world of his predilections. You may have asked yourself why none of his contacts pushed back or questioned this behavior. That's because it's normal in those circles. They've gathered predators in those companies and are so emboldened as to lose sight that the country thinks this is on the highest tiers of revulsion for a society.

Consider the universities that keep probing legalizing this sort of thing. VC terms commonly place university into a start-up as management as condition for funding. Start up firms are dependent on their connections in universities for talent. A wide disconnect in cultures with regular society may explain why we keep seeing universities pushing the child grooming.
