Do elected officials have to have security clearance? I'm not sure they do, otherwise there's a lot of House members that need to be cleared more thoroughly.

I know pedes don't want to hear it, but Trump probably had to have more done, as an outsider, than Joe will. He was given all the necessary clearances as VP and a long standing member of the Congress, it's probably an easy rubber stamp process. The rumor that he couldn't get clearance is just that, rumor. Also, they're in charge now, he'll get whatever he needs. What, so lower level staffer is gonna say no? C'mon.

The President is the original classification authority. The President doesn't need a clearance technically because of this.
