The founders included another check on the Federal Government by avenue of an Article V Convention of States where constitutional amendments can be passed without Congress. 34 states are needed, I believe.
I don't hear any of our thought-leaders even bringing this up. There is a committee called Convention of States Action that claims to have a commitment from 15 states already.

Convention is the only answer at this point. Unless trump can still pull off a miracle. I've been advocating for convention for years.
