Always have been. America was founded on individual freedom that is protected by the INDIVIDUAL. Individuals banded together for the common goal of individual liberty. There has never been a collectivist mindset in America. We were never about Communist style living, in fact the first pilgrims almost all died because of that. It wasn't until they all took care of THEMSELVES that they succeeded.
Communism does work... when it's voluntary and that's the problem. The Branch Davidians worked out because they all agreed that's how they wanted to live. But they were independent from the system and well... can't have that.
