It would seem the management of Cloudflare are well aware that Gab is a customer given they have switched to an enterprise plan and management have been bombarded with leftist bile. Together with blocking extreme leftists on Twitter it seems that Cloudflare may be willing to stand on the right side of history.

Feel free to send them a message of support.

Good news. Cloudflare may come out of this as one of the very few companies who stood for free speech.

Epik and Cloudflare.

Cloudflare is putting a big target on their back. Nothing but respect. This is stepping into the fire

d_bokk 11 points ago +11 / -0

They have more leverage than other companies because their service is necessary for anyone who uses it, otherwise they wouldn't. Even if a company did virtue signal by dropping them, they're just advertising they're vulnerable to DOS'ing since there are few competitor services.

...Build your own Clowdflare? KEK!

I thought cloudflare had been taking down a ton of stuff that the libs wanted to in the past. What's with the 360 and walk away?

DoubleBased 12 points ago +12 / -0 (edited)

May just be a smart business move. Saying you will cancel people with short notice and potentially put other companies out of business is (or should be) scaring executives across the country.

3
NZ_needs_a_Trump 3 points ago +3 / -0

You're right. It would be bad for business

2
SgtReaper 2 points ago +2 / -0

Sorry, but i'll save my praise until i see more examples.

The reason is simple: Cloudflare is freaking everywhere. I've been uneasy about that for a while: So many websites relying on the same service - just like big tech. And just as with google, that means they have the ability to track user-behavior across the internet.

Maybe they're good guys, but i'll reserve judgement until i've got more than one datapoint.

Is Epik webhosting pretty good? Thinking of finding a new host for a project I want to do. Don't want to get deplatformed if it becomes successful.

Payment processor to Cloudflare: "we are terminating our financial assistance to you".

Cloudflare to Payment processor: "You sure you wanna do that? be a shame if you had no DDOS protection."

Dude, we need to let Cloudflare know we support them and are willing to help.

No kidding. What other products do they offer?

I bought stock. Can't afford much but I believe in them at least for now. As much as I do tesla

Right on!

8moreyears 12 points ago +12 / -0

He did ban Stormfront and a few others I believe. I think it was after the Charlottesville media hoax. So he is amenable to media pressure. I would still have backup options available.

1
fdagasfd 1 point ago +1 / -0

So they're a reverse twitter: banning people who openly self-identify as white supremacists while not banning people who have denied it every time it's ever come up.

-9
qwertyuiop123 -9 points ago +1 / -10

He banned actual real Nazis? .... um... good? I'm pretty happy if a social media company chooses to ban the most radical 1% of the population. No conservative wants to listen to those socialists and their bullshit and they have their own website for that. The issue with twitter is they banned 60% of the population.

15
pepperedtrail 15 points ago +15 / -0

Free speech. Either all of it is okay or none of it is okay.

2
fdagasfd 2 points ago +2 / -0

I agree, I don't like actual nazis but the obvious entire point of the first amendment is that even racists(speech we detest) are supposed to be allowed to talk.

3
pepperedtrail 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes. Because once you start censoring one type of speech, it becomes easier to censor another person's speech.

For example, start censoring Nazis and everyone is okay with that. Then start censoring misogynists and everyone is okay with that. Then they'll start censoring anything labeled as "hate speech". Then they'll start censoring anything that is a threat to their own platform. Then they'll censor anything that they just don't like or disagree with.

That's how it starts.

1
qwertyuiop123 1 point ago +1 / -0

You are literally posting on a website that bans anyone who isn't a conservative, and any conservatives who don't support Trump. Furthermore, the only reason you are posting here is precisely because they do ban these people. If they didn't ban them you would be posting somewhere where they did, so this is really dumb.

1
pepperedtrail 1 point ago +1 / -0

Wrong.

I have many accounts in liberal echo chambers.

I don't approve of banning people who disagree with my opinion. I'm not the moderating team on this forum.

You made a lot of incorrect assumptions about me. Not everyone is a batshit insane liberal like you.

1
qwertyuiop123 1 point ago +1 / -0

You post on liberal eco chambers....Why?

1
pepperedtrail 1 point ago +1 / -0

Twitter is a liberal echo chamber. Reddit is a liberal echo chamber.

(((They))) control everything. Good luck finding a place that isn't an echo chamber aside from 4chan.

ntvl 6 points ago +6 / -0

no bans should happen for neutral platforms unless a judge orders it, it shouldn't be up to the executive at this point. Even if a judge orders it, better they're found guilty first

1
Alienus 1 point ago +1 / -0

If they're not guilty, they've not been found to break laws. So if a judge orders it without that, the judge becomes a fake arbiter of truth. Bad optics if you ask me, that's how you get double standards.

3
Alienus 3 points ago +3 / -0

Dutchman here, Nazis wrecked our country. There is censorship by law here about Nazi propaganda... That law is wrong. Censorship is always wrong.

Ask yourself "who determines what is to be censored ?" The people in power of whom it is critical they be criticized publicly, without hesitation if so required.

qwertyuiop123 0 points ago +1 / -1

You are posting on a website that bans everyone who isn't conservatve and anyone who conservative but doesn't support Trump. The only reason you are here is because of the above, in fact, if it didn't do those things you wouldn't be here, you would be on a website that did.

1
Alienus 1 point ago +1 / -0

Let me break it down for you,

  • I am not left nor right.
  • I neither support nor disavow Trump.
  • I do support the legitimate president of the united states, and for this reason will not do the same for Biden.
  • I hold positions that are categorized as "conservative" and " liberal".
  • I'm a European.
  • I'd give my life if it would prevent censorship, even if it only currently literally applied to nazis

Don't fucking tell me I'm not free to hold my opinions, we got enough shills on reddit, facebook, twitter, and the main stream doing that already. And sure, if people are here just to bitch about Trump, they best go to a place where such a thing is appreciated and rewarded.

2
lordvon 2 points ago +2 / -0

was stormfront real nazis or fake nazis?

1
qwertyuiop123 1 point ago +1 / -0

No stormfront are the genuine Nazis, the only real Nazi group I know of.

Expel the socialist but it's their God given right to spout nonsense while they starve to death under socialism.

I think they just want to know there is a moderation plan that is actively managed. It is annoying though and they need to be clearer on it.

I work with cloudflare a lot in my professional life at a fairly high level. They are awesome.

Check out their 1.1.1.1 DNS server as an alternative to Google. You can read more about it here: https://1.1.1.1/. It's faster, more secure and private.

https://www.fastcompany.com/90312063/how-cloudflare-straddles-its-role-as-privacy-champion-and-hate-speech-enabler

“Literally, I woke up in a bad mood and decided someone shouldn’t be allowed on the internet. No one should have that power,” CEO Matthew Prince wrote in an email to staff.

6
Lurker404 6 points ago +6 / -0

No one should have that power,

And yet he did it again to 8chan later. And again to MAGAimg.

If you rely on Cloudflare you better have a backup plan you can implement on short notice because they are not reliable. Don't come crying when it happens. You should have known better.

1
AgnesDomini 1 point ago +1 / -0

Exactly. Even the "ethical" companies are hypocritical many times. Ummmm, hello! Google used to spew the motto "Don't be evil." Guess they wanted to do it all themselves...

5
Vivere_Pericoloso 5 points ago +5 / -0

I still don't trust cloudflare... better to have a backup

2
MarchEast 2 points ago +2 / -0

Cloudfare would have minimal business if they refused to protect sites that leftest mobs want to take down.

1
ntvl 1 point ago +1 / -0

that's literally their business model? DDoS protecting us from scared lefties.

1
MarchEast 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm just speculating, but it stands to reason it would be a factor in their business model.

Hell, I want to somehow send them some cash!

3
AussieTrumpSupporter [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

Just buy $NET stock. They don't need cash as they are growing quite well. You could transfer domain names over to them if you wanted to although they don't really add margin to the cost price lol. Most of their money is made on enterprise customers who use their CDN/DDoS protection/Workers.

Oh nice so Gab will sort of work now

4
AussieTrumpSupporter [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

It will work as well as the underlying servers can handle. Unfortunately with the traffic they've had that may take some weeks to stabilise.

1
rosie 1 point ago +1 / -0

Hopefully this means that the DDOS attacks won't slow Gab down as much as before. Still can't help the overwhelming traffic on the servers, though, but that'll get worked out soon.

1
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 1 point ago +1 / -0

They had like 2 million people sign up in a day. They aren't on aws so they can't scale as easily as others can.

1
oilybohunkofshit 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yeah. Still doesn’t really work for me. Kind of a bummer.

2
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is what life was like before cloud scaling.
