BREAKINGGovernor Hogan says we must get kids back into classrooms to stop learning loss. Citing his executive order to allow schools to return students to in person learning last August, Hogan says the science on reopening is clear. Hogan spoke directly to local school boards when he said "There is no public health reason for school boards to be keeping students out of school. None." He is calling on all county school systems to make every effort to return to hybrid in person learning no later than March 1st. Hogan says the vast majority of teachers want to get back to class and he expects the union to make sure that they do. Hogan went on to say that if school systems do not "immediately begin a good faith effort to return to the classrooms, we will explore every legal avenue at our disposal. Children cannot afford any more endless roadblocks or moving goal posts."
Last night The Anne Arundel County Board Of Education meeting demonstrated that no concrete plan for reopening exists at this time for AACPS. Planning seems limited at best with many issues like bussing and start times affecting implementation of any plan. Frustrated families we spoke to have been calling local officials begging for a viable reopening plan for weeks, as the mental health effects of virtual learning are increasing. Governor Hogan also reiterated the mental health toll being out of the classroom is taking on our children and entire families trying to help. Jinlene Chan, M.D., Acting Deputy Secretary, Public Health Services says the number of children falling behind in Maryland and the mental health effects of not attending school in person are rising. She says we must adjust our guidance based on an evolving understanding of the COVID-19 infection for the good of our children.
My governor. What an effing piece of crap. The idiot proudly announced that he voted for Ronald Reagan for Prez (2020, not 1980).
rise up and lead, pede!
We will need leaders in Maryland to step up to make this a reality. Message me if interested.
