There is most likely not cause of action. If it's an employment at will state, and I think it is, then he can be fired for any reason, or no reason at all. IF there is not good cause for the firing, then he may be entitled to unemployment. But since he was not there long, that probably won't be worth much.

We just need to go and harass his former employer and the NHL team for being total pussies.
