Solid colors really are your friend at these things, especially when you think they might go a little sideways. That includes hats and wear very common shoes.

When I worked in retail if a child was every lost in the store we asked what kind of shoes they were wearing. Easy to quickly change clothes if something bad was happening, hard to change shoes.
