It does sound strange, but before I posted to 'debunk' I just pulled my Mossberg 500 out, unloaded of course, and tried to put it in a position to pull the trigger against my chest. It was surprisingly easy to get it in a spot that would work right over the heart. It may be a rare form of suicide but plausible.

Perhaps he wanted to insure that he had a open casket for his family.

RIP patriot, shame too because after all it was said and done, he likely would have received a slap on the wrist unless he was someone with direct video evidence of destroying property to gain entry.

Not everyone has a shotgun either. Maybe he didn't want to be discovered without a face.

Yes, but generally even the gun stupid media would report it as a hand gun as shotgun to them only looks like one thing.
