In high school a friend of mine got rolled up on by 5 unmarked cars, non-uniform cops got out and arrested his ass for I think heroin, but something equally as hard if not that, this looks like a drug bust, may have just been coincidental that it happened right after a protest

Those weren't cops
They look Military or some other federal agency...
They are private contractors like Haliberton or Blackwater types. Cops don't look like that. They don't dress like that either.

my guess is that they investigated and caught someone who actually
committed violent crimes during these 'mostly peaceful protests'
you know. like throwing molotovs in a squad car -sort of thing.
and that the crime they investigated was enough that they
were ok to threaten anyone that might 'be on board' with the accused.
