The cops he leads them to were all just standing around waiting. If he had called for backup, they would be runninnggggg to him as fast as possible. He could have aimed his gun and held them back real easily until help arrived.
Drawing a gun would escalate any threat. As a police officer your main priority is to avoid violence and use your voice.

I thought about that. But I don't see any other option when a mob is coming at you. The situation is already very tense. That being said, I think this group is not at all a part of MAGA. What is their goal of getting to the officer? No one here has any issue with police. The goal was to get to congress. If they were MAGA they would have walked the other direction as this guy wasn't blocking them from getting where they wanted to go.
