What is the point of 5g? I’ve never had any issues streaming on 4g.. why was 5g necessary, and why is it a selling point?

3
I_Love_45-70_Gov 3 points ago +4 / -1

3G was awesome over a decade ago.

5G will be able keep with newer technologies as they begin to come online.

It's useless out in the sticks because the only real infrastructure is in the cities at the moment.

I seriously doubt we'll ever see 5G outside of large metropolitan areas.

13
FAhayek 13 points ago +13 / -0

Cityfags will be able to track their UberEats order 40% more accurately! yay 5G

I_Love_45-70_Gov 1 point ago +2 / -1

Lol.

4
JwPATX 4 points ago +4 / -0

That’s just the way of it. As the technology keeps going up, coverage has an inverse relationship. Back when everything was 800mHz I could use a cell phone on my ranch reliably. It’s been over 10 years since that was the case.

What? Like more surveillance.

2
I_Love_45-70_Gov 2 points ago +3 / -1

I just bought a T-Mobile REVVL 5G phone. So far a very nice phone...flagship features without the $$ and most apps garbage.

Unfortunately, it's still an Android, but with 5g, 48MP camera (really, really amazing camera) at only $399.00.

It's only a hair larger than my old S9.

Looking to root it would, or whatever they call it these days.

Want to completely de-google my life.

I guess I'll see if that one made in HK is available.

Anyway... thanks, Pede.

2
Ivleeeg 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just depends on what kind of device you want. If you're looking newest, the pixel 4 supports it. But just look through the list and pick one. If it's a Google phone or another non-grata company, just by 2nd hand so you don't give them money.

Hopefully, it won't be Windows phone 2.0.

I actually liked the layout of the phone, but Google and Apple intentionally kept their apps from it, so the phone was worthless apart from calling and texting. Basically, it was a non-smartphone smartphone.

The problem isn’t so much having to delete or boycott shit.

It’s can half the population do these things while the other half is firmly entrenched and able to use all these things?

Like we’ve seen with the gaslighting and “omg domestic terrorism” from the media and the Dems... conservatives are simply held to a much higher standard with very little room for error.

One side (the normal Americans who are conservative) are at such a disadvantage in so many fucking ways already and it’s getting even worse.

6
AerialRush 6 points ago +6 / -0

We use VISA as a convenience and never pay interest on the card. With our card, we get 2.5% cash back every month and we use it for everything. So that cash back costs them money the way I figure it because they never see a dime of interest from me.

1
Ivleeeg 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yep. May as well use it against Thema since there really is no alternative.

3
ticomfreak 3 points ago +3 / -0

WRONG! Visa charges the merchants that accepts them 3% of their transactions. So that 'cash back' you get is only some of the money Visa takes from them. You're still giving Visa 0.5% worth of all your transactions if you continue to use your card.

1
pseudosapient 1 point ago +1 / -0

Cash. Old school.

3
LongDingDongKong 3 points ago +4 / -1

Well I can't use cash to buy things online, and my credit card gives me 1.5% back on everything, which adds up to about $1000 a year

5
JustANormalAmerican 5 points ago +5 / -0

Companies have to charge 3% more for your stuff to cover CC service fees. We lose.

3
LongDingDongKong 3 points ago +4 / -1

Well it's either i pay those 3% fees and get nothing back, or pay those 3% fees and get half of it back. If you go to a physical store they aren't offering discounts for cash payments

1
pseudosapient 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well it's either i pay those 3% fees and get nothing back, or pay those 3% fees and get half of it back.

Congratulations. You are the defector in the prisoner's dilemma.

Welcome to game theory.

The only reason why the company accepts those 3% fees in the first place is because there are too many people like you that shrug and defect.

1
LongDingDongKong 1 point ago +1 / -0

Oh no, I use the same thing that the vast majority of people use when they buy stuff.

A couple hundred people cancelling their credit cards will do nothing except result in more profit for retailers. It's a fools errand to pretend you will make a difference.

That 3% fee existed before banks started giving cash back. It's a fee that's charged to the merchant, and has been for a long time. Your grocery store isn't going to give you a discount for paying cash. I choose to live in the real world and get $1000 back every year.

1
540k-Again 1 point ago +1 / -0

In general, you can use reloadable prepaid cards, and not "Credit cards" to buy things online. Walmart likely being the best, particularly if being "unbanked", and Less risk than using a debit card online even if have bank accounts.

In your case with spending so much online, if you're buying from some merchants directly regularly or with bigger ticket items (particularly items which don't benefit from "extra insurance coverage" from using a credit card like airlines/cars/etc.); it's in their financial interest and yours to do electronic check payments instead. The merchant doesn't have to pay much of a transaction cost, but it does take 1 to few days to clear, depending on where their merchant banks at. Some merchants will set up an account with you, and others might just wait until your check clears to ship out the product. If you're buying so much stuff, this isn't much a problem as you can just factor in those extra days buying things a few days ahead of time. Most merchants are very happy to not have to pay the credit card processing feees, as that's a significant % of their net profit in most cases.

With regards to Mozilla software, there are alternate versions to Firefox and Thunderbird that are built from source and do not contain the Mozilla BS that has been shipping in Firefox over the last 5 years. I am not the biggest fan of using Brave because of its Chromium base, which can't reliably be themed like Firefox used to be able to, and is a resource hog. I have found Pale Moon, which is essentially old Firefox with a modern HTML engine. There is also Basilisk (Firefox-52 clone using Pale Moon engine) and Waterfox (modern Firefox with BS removed and some customization restored). All of the browsers that I have mentioned have supported ad and content blocker extensions, so they can be made just as, if not more, secure than Brave.

Can you provide a source for their "deals"? I've seen random people post this on forums over the years, but no proof. And I can see the calls brave blocks, including all big tech travkers. Chromium is an open source framework, that basically every browser needs to be compatible with because websites support that and Firefox basically. Flash has many outstanding security issues and just recently went into a state of not being supported at all, which means no security updates.

I agree, dissenter is good, I am going to get that on my desktop, but no way of using it in my phone.

If chromium has major security-holes, that means Google chrome does too... I think you're full of shit. There was a recent issue found a couple months ago that was big, but was updated promptly. As long as Google has their own browser, chromium will be getting security updates.

Sadly iPhone, MacBook Air, Netflix, Spotify and Reddit still on but looking for alternatives. Windows 10 doesn't actually allow to stop updates, only postpone - big red flag.

2
Lookthething 2 points ago +2 / -0

For your remaining, you could consider: De-Googled Android phones or upcoming Gab phone. Linux machine. YouTube on mobile on brave (built in adblocker) (maybe Gab tv eventually), YouTube for music with Brave.

The key to getting out of forced ads is not using their apps. Always use those sites on a browser like Brave to restrict them from making money off you, until there is an alternative that you are willing to go to.
