That’s EXACTLY what the Nazi’s did after Reichstag fire! They issued the Reichstag fire decree or “ Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of People and State”. which nullified many of the German peoples civil liberties which allowed them to usher in the Nazi state and a single party rule.
