The Posse Comitatus Act states that no branch of the military, except the NG, can be used to enforce domestic law, preventing such actions as searching and seizing property or dispersing crowds.

So if they are going to DC for anything to do with citizens, then martial law or insurrection act must be incoming. Easy on the hopium, we do not know where they are going or why.

Would be wise to keep an eye out for them in DC though!

EDIT: u/Ddee really really wants me to clarify that if the Marines are going to DC to hand out candy and high five people, it wouldn't violate the Posse Comitatus Act. I think we all know that, but for those that got here on the short bus... now you know.

Actually Posse Comitatus Act does not apply to the Marines, they just have internal, not statutory, policies against performing law enforcement on civilians.

Only applies to the Army and Air Force.

It especially does not apply to the Coast Guard, who performs law enforcement all the time.

Coast Guard performs their interdiction and law enforcement off the COAST. The Coasties are not roaming the mainland arresting citizens. Heck, even off the COAST you're not too likely to get hassled by them. Will have to find you the relevant ruling, but Coast Guar d is not a civilian body.

I know they are not a civilian body. Nobody is questioning that.

Although the Navy and Marine Corps are not included in the act, they were made subject to it by DoD Regulation (32 C.F.R. Section 213.2, 1992).

"So if they are going to DC for anything to do with citizens, then martial law or insurrection act must be incoming. "

NOT TRUE... Active duty, Reserves and Guard can be used in a SUPPORT ROLE. 82nd deployed to South Florida after Hurricane Andrew, troops deploy to the west coast for duty fighting fires, parades, etc. If you don't know what you are talking about look it up or ask.

Fighting fires and marching in parades is not ENFORCING LAWS!

The irony here is, you have no clue and need to go study it.

BC, reread your second sentence.. You said, "having anything to do with citizens" Do you mean arresting, rounding up, safeguarding, handing out water, performing for them? What? Having done this shit for over 26 years, I know what I'm talking about, you, not so much.

If they are going to DC, I see it as a good sign. The president would have to be involved.
