The Posse Comitatus Act states that no branch of the military, except the NG, can be used to enforce domestic law, preventing such actions as searching and seizing property or dispersing crowds.
So if they are going to DC for anything to do with citizens, then martial law or insurrection act must be incoming. Easy on the hopium, we do not know where they are going or why.
Would be wise to keep an eye out for them in DC though!
EDIT: u/Ddee really really wants me to clarify that if the Marines are going to DC to hand out candy and high five people, it wouldn't violate the Posse Comitatus Act. I think we all know that, but for those that got here on the short bus... now you know.
Actually Posse Comitatus Act does not apply to the Marines, they just have internal, not statutory, policies against performing law enforcement on civilians.
Only applies to the Army and Air Force.
It especially does not apply to the Coast Guard, who performs law enforcement all the time.
