Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) was primaried by a good strong Tea Party candidate and lost. She and the establishment R's were shocked. They mounted a write-in campaign, including lawfare so that even if her name was butchered on the ballot it would count. Essentially anything written in counted for her. That's why she's still there.

This is a tool we could use to get our candidates through even if they lose a primary. Every state has different rules, and some don't allow it at all.
