I know, a lot of people are down, so I thought I'd offer up a little feel good story. This is totally not election related, so hopefully it's a nice distraction, if even for a moment.
Some of you may remember one of my earlier posts. I wasn't able to make it to DC on the 6th because I was in a serious car accident on the 4th. I'm healing up wonderfully, by the way. The dizzy spells have stopped, and it looks like the gash on my head will barely leave a scar. The knee that went through the dashboard still feels weak, but the swelling is less every day, and I can stand and walk for a little while without the brace. Although, I may have overdone it today.
Anyway, just a few minutes ago, my neighbor stopped by. Her boys saw the wreck of my truck sitting in the driveway, and said they wanted to do something nice for me, so they made chocolate chip banana bread. We're not particularly close, but her oldest still talks about the time I "rescued" them. They had just moved in and weren't well versed in "country" life. They panicked when the funny looking turtle in their yard hissed at them. It was a snapper.
So in the midst of all the hell and chaos raging around us, just remember, there are still good people in the world. There are people willing to look beyond themselves and extend a hand to someone in need. If those kids can keep that spirit, there's still hope for this country.
I hope this has taken your mind off of things for just a little while, and if you feel the need to say something cruel or cynical, do us all a favor.
Keep it to yourself.

I like this story because I live in the country and I love turtles (not Mitch). I've only seen small ones in VA, but PA, where I grew up, had big snappers. Glad to hear you are healing up and you have some little guys admiring you. Masculinity is so nice. :)
Funny you say that. I'm in PA. This was one of the bigger ones I've seen. The shell was almost 10 inches side to side. To demonstrate how dangerous they can be, I poked it with a finger thick stick until it bit the stick in half. Then I put it in the back of my truck and relocated it to some wetlands not too far away.
Oh I believe you. True story: when I was a kid, my dad and his uncles/friends would actually make something called turtle soup. They once captured a big snapper and put it in one of those big metal washtubs, put an old door over it, and put a cinder block on top of that to keep it there until the next day when they were going to kill/clean it. In the morning that thing had somehow gotten out. As best as I can guess it's neck muscles were strong enough to push the cinder block and door off............ then it used it's body weight to tip the tub. Funny how you never forget stuff like that. All of us kids were like, "crap, now that thing is still out there in the woods somewhere!" lol
Lol. I've heard an almost identical story from my dad. When he was a kid, my grandpa found one crossing the road. He put it in the trunk of his Plymouth, brought it home, and put it in a pickle barrel. They fed it kitchen scraps for a few weeks to fatten it up a little, then it went in the soup pot.
Snapping turtles are great . . . target practice. Seriously, when they pop that head out of the water, take it off. Otherwise, they eat your fish.
Up where I'm at in Canada I've seen snappers as big as dinner plates.
Glad to hear you are healing. Great story, thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this uplifting story and good reminders. I am so glad to hear you are healing!
Thank you...🙏🏼...rapid healing!
That was really nice. Thank you. Hope you recover soon fren.
There are definitely good people around, it's just that currently the concentration is on the people that aren't. I'm ready to go back to concentrating on the ones that are.
i didn't know snappers could hiss.
They can. It's a heavy exhalation with the mouth gaped open. She said, "Hey a turtle!" and tried to pick it up. Snapping turtles don't like to be picked up. They were lucky to find one with a better disposition. Some just bite with no warning.
They are dicks.
Very nice story. Thanks. Heal quickly. Most people are like you. THE MEDIA brainwashes otherwise.
