Our current government organization is predicated on XVIII-century information speed. We need to make referendum the corner stone of modern democracy at the local level, but also above. I revere the Constitution but it becomes abundantly clear that elected officials do not respect It. So time for the people to speak again.

PSA on Referendums and Initiatives

Referendums, are for the people to STOP laws being enacted by the legislature.

They are not the same thing as (popular) initiatives, which is legislation being proposed by some part of the constituents. But often in discussions, both is being referred to as referendums.

Hence, referendums (in my humble view) can only be good, as it is a tool of the people to stop unnecessary / harmful legislation being enacted.

It works as a brake on legislative activity; also it slows down the whole thing as the referendum needs to be organized, which doesn't allow for laws to take effect a few days after passage.
