I remember hearing (maybe it was a Jordan Peterson video) that when that Nazis were facing certain destruction at the end of the war, rather than allocate more resources to fending off their enemies, they actually redoubled their efforts at the death camps in an attempt to destroy just as many lives as possible in as short a span of time as possible.
