I've been reading a book (Jonathan Haidts: The Righteous Mind) and stumbled upon a concept that aptly explains leftist think in the Trump era.
There is a concept called Cognitive Modules. Cognitive modules give us a hyper sensitivity towards perception. For example, we see faces in clouds but we don't see clouds in faces. We see animals in clouds but we don't see clouds in animals. This hypersensitivity is hardwired into our brains.
A key trait of cognitive modules is that it makes all of the mistakes in ONE direction (faces in clouds not vice versa). Leftists today have an anti-Trump cognitive module. It causes them to see everything Trump does in a negative light.
While I support Trump, I have made mistakes in the past that caused me to see Trump behavior to be falsely negative. For example, I fell for the fine people hoax and the grab her by the pussy hoax before doing more research.
The problem with leftists is that they make 100% of their mistakes in one direction. They see anything that Trump does in a negative light. Where you can ideologically checkmate your leftist friend is by asking them to give you an example of a mistake that they made where they viewed something that Trump did as good (that was actually bad). Obviously they won't be able to do this.
At this point you can explain to them that they have something called a cognitive module that causes them to view everything through a negative lens. This is a psychological fallacy.
Be ready to respond to their next retort (will that's because Trump never does anything positive!) with a few positive Trump achievements. Prison reform, record black and female unemployment, $2,000 stimulus, and Middle East relations should be effective for this type of person.
By using the #science™ of psychology, you will get your leftist cog friend to gut-check themself.
Actually, about the "Grab her by the pussy" thing.
Why are people so upset over it? I have never been able to comprehend why and I watched the whole clip.
The media said that it was about sexual assault. Obviously if you listen to the 30 seconds surrounding that quote you would realize that it was not. But the media is exceptional at utilizing excerpts for their propaganda.
