BTW- FUCK GRAND RAPIDS. It’s a little liberal shit hole with a bad attitude. As a decision maker in my company, I will be buying stamping dies from China rather than this treasonous little shit hole. At least I know my enemy.

Looks like Kroger’s it is!

Be a shame if truckers refused to make food deliveries to the Meijer outlets. No stock, no customers .... no customers, no $!

42
whomurderedepstein 42 points ago +45 / -3

They will replace the truckers with robots.

50
McCrusaider 50 points ago +51 / -1

way too early for that technology.

41
MAGASQUAD 41 points ago +41 / -0

Aurora is already working on it. They just bought Ubers self driving tech for 4 billion. But aurora is a bunch of retarded hipsters so theyll probably be bankrupt in 2 years.

31
whomurderedepstein 31 points ago +31 / -0

That just means they'll sell the company to China.

10
McCrusaider 10 points ago +10 / -0

the problem is, it'll need a long time for testing and deploying adequate infrastructure, imagine a tesla in the 1800s, very advanced, but won't go far before serious problems arise that could destroy the whole concept. at the very least, it won't be ready by a close trucker's strike (if they decided to go through with it).

Facts, they take out DOT loans for their trucks and go back home when its time to pay up, leaving the tab for us citizens.

One of those driverless trucks dev companies posted a long haul with no driver video and they violated so many laws. I commented and they took down my comment.

Would love to see how one of these robot trucks will deal with a flat tire or red/blue flashers

3
Swagnon 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's way too early. Any tech company claiming they have the secret sauce doesn't matter. The hardware and sensor suite still need a lot of work.

It's easy to drive in on a highway it's harder to react.

Source - I'm a PC in the industry.

1
80960KA 1 point ago +1 / -0

Lots of people working on it, the tech is kinda close to being "ready".

The regulatory/liability/insurance issues will probably take a decade or more before SDVs without human operators are allowed on public roads though.

12
I_LUV_WINNING 12 points ago +12 / -0

Can you imagine if 4 MILLION Truck drivers get pushed out of work because of robot drivers? There would be an absolute uprising, and not a robot uprising a everyday American Uprising, it would make floyd riots look like a tuesday.

11
whomurderedepstein 11 points ago +12 / -1

It won't happen all at once. They will start using them where they need them the most first. Like making deliveries to cities actual humans are too afraid or won't drive into, but it will be enough to remove any power the truckers might collectively hold. Besides technology has been replacing people in mass for 400 years. Why would we all the sudden turn into the Amash or Hutterites rejecting technological advancements?

7
BasedFatTails2 7 points ago +7 / -0

It will be the opposite actually. Auto driving will do the long haul driving between centers in the suburbs or exurbs of cities. Than drivers will pick them up to do the more difficult driving within cities.

One thing to remember though is most distribution centers are already in these less urban locations I.e. sorting centers. So it might be possible to organize from center to delivery truck in an autonomous manner. Getting rid of a lot of long haul jobs

4
KarenKarenKaren 4 points ago +4 / -0

Long haul, improved infrastructure, centralized control logic?is that what’s called a ChooChooTrain?

2
Aoikaze2000 2 points ago +2 / -0

Funny how we got rid of them all in the early 20th century only to circle back to that technology in a bit different manner about a hundred years later....

They'll replace them with immigrants. They'll cry there is no one to drive the trucks, get special visas for truck drivers.

11
darthjson 11 points ago +11 / -0

It'll happen until one of the self driving trucks makes the wrong decision and plows through a school bus. Once lawyers will get involved and the whole field of autonomous driving vehicles will be set back to the early 2000s. Basically to where a "driver" has to be awake and in the seat with the ability to take over.

6
whomurderedepstein 6 points ago +6 / -0

Maybe but truck drivers kill people all the time and they still allow them on the road. All the defense has to do is argue that automated trucks are safer, even if they are not 100% safe. Vaccines are not %100 safe and yet they are being released. Besides you can always use more coercive methods. Could it be that it has more to due with money then anything else?

7

it takes independent truckers to deliver to their warehouses to supply them. Even if they in house brands it takes raw materials to be delivered.

But bottom line, times are pretty hard right now and asking drivers to not make money to feed their families is going to be a little hard.

whomurderedepstein 34 points ago +35 / -1

So Grand Rapids is an elitist medical research city. It is also a test city, think experiments on the people. Fluoride was first introduced in America here. There are caves under the city and a huge medical research complex above it. The rich made their money from Amway, the original pyramid scheme, might recognize the name Besty Devos. They have untold fortunes. Meijer is probably the third richest known family. This area is also the home of black water.

To the native Americans this cities site was one of the sacred places on the earth. The entire west side of the river was a flood plain with burial monds. Hundreds. The river was damed and the mounds destroyed. The native American chief cursed the people of grand rapids saying you can live here but in life and in death you will never be allowed to leave. Since then people who do leave always find their way back. Or so the ledgend goes....

10
JESUSJUGS 10 points ago +10 / -0

My mother and her whole family are from there. They all live in Virginia now and probably won’t go back. However, I quite like Grand Rapids.

10
whomurderedepstein 10 points ago +10 / -0

I wish them luck, it's just a superstition after all. It is a nice city but that is because it was build by hard working Americans. Today it is home to many first and second generation immigrants from all parts of the world, still hard working. It is one of the most diverse cities in the country as well. I thinks it's time has passed though, since the rich men who have donated to build all the cool shit are starting to age out. Devos, Van Andel and Meijer. It's becoming the liberal city capital of the mid west coast. That can't result in good things.

4
Sammie 4 points ago +4 / -0

There’s a lot of Chicago transplants, too.

6
Pepe_longcockings 6 points ago +6 / -0

GR used to be great, as recently as 25 years ago. It used to be a furniture town (Steelcase) but it is amazing the extent to which downtown has been converted to a massive medical industrial complex

5
whomurderedepstein 5 points ago +5 / -0

Big money did that. The Devos and Van Andels who made their money with Amway Corp and Frederik Meijer who made his money with the Meijer Corp. Not the only ones, but they are the anchor philanthropists. Saved the city from the fate of Detroit that suffered the lose of those manufacturing jobs in my opinion.

26
stjimmy92 26 points ago +26 / -0

Dude I work for them. We literally have a Chinese branch that exists solely to replace our few made in America products with Chinese shit

Edit: just going to go off a little more. We’re all in on “diversity and inclusions.” We’ve had a monthly newsletter about how we’re pushing for women and minorities to lead in the company, but nobody signed up for it because no one gives a fuck. So now they print them out and put them in our break rooms. Jumped head first into “our models will be more diverse” so we have a bunch of disgustingly fat, black (and of course half have that pigmentation disorder) models for our women’s clothing. Even directly in my store they do fun stuff like promote women above men despite the men having more experience and familiarity with the department. Seriously, fuck Meijer.

20
whomurderedepstein 20 points ago +20 / -0

It's not just Meijer. Wokism is infecting all of West Michigan. The church folk are freaking out because they were raised in a cultural bubble, then they went to University and were brainwashed with inclusion, equity, and diversity and now they feel guilty growing up in a cultural bubble. Only virtuous thing to do is to destroy the culture in recompense.

It is much smaller and the industry here is service, small factory, higher education and medical. Besides the medical industrial complex for the elites here is huge, biggest in the region. This city isn't going anywhere. If jobs go away many people will leave sure, but it doesn't have the height to fall from like Detroit did.

Hey now...

I resent those remarks of GR being a liberal shit hole. This place is more conservative than most larger cities. Meijer is a shitty company with their leadership doing what they have done for the past several years, so I'll give you that. I've been boycotting them for years already. There is no Kroger in GR, but there is Spartan.

That being said go ahead and shit on Peter Meijer all you want. I can't believe that I voted for that guy now that he's showing what he really wants in DC. He's getting primaried just like that fucker Justin Amash (although he basically quit, little pussy).

10
Philemon 10 points ago +10 / -0

Grand Rapids is becoming more and more of a liberal shit hole every year. They think they are an important center for the arts and medical research but they are deluded. They see themselves like a "smaller Chicago". The way they mean it is laughable, like they have so much culture and great dining. Fucking joke. They are like a smaller Chicago as in being liberal and progressive. The local news there features stories like "local woman visits UK for royal wedding". They are such an insignificant shitville, but the people think it's an important city. This place is truly a town of have and have nots. Go down by heart side park and see the hundred of homeless hanging out or see their tent cities on the east bank of the river just south of town. No worries though, they will just open a couple dozen more shitty craft breweries and do some more stupid fucking art festivals. Grand Rapids and Meijer are a fucking joke.

3
FuckCommies 3 points ago +3 / -0

I thought for sure big weed was gonna kill off craft beer there. It's hard telling just yet with the bars being closed. I'm an hour west of AA, and the amount of people growing, buying and consuming great cannabis is staggering. People are drinking FAR less and I'm rural farm town that bleeds red.

I agree though, used to visit that city for metal shows (was a good scene 6 years ago) and the last thing they need is another craft brewery run by hipster cucks that spend most the time virue signaling on labels and media all the while brewing yet another overhopped skunk IPA.

Raising your own garden and animals is the only cheap option I know of.

8
randomusers239874 8 points ago +8 / -0

That's actually more expensive because economies of scale. It sucks because mom and pop shops can never be cheaper than the big companies due to simple economics, so we have to choose to pay more for things to keep them alive.

Not so. My high efficiency freezers cost about $20 a month, 28sq ft. I store all the vegetables, fruit, and meat I need to get through winter in them. When they are empty I turn them off until more food comes in. The initial investment pays for itself in the first year. It takes about ten hours a week during the growing season to feed my family though we spend more time cooking and prepping food. If I analyze my standard of living before and after homesteading I would definitely say my standards are higher with less money. The food quality is unbeatable. Besides when you buy food from a freezer in a store you are paying for that electricity too, and the stockers wages, the truck driver, the fuel, the wholesaler, the other truck driver, the fuel, the processing, their electricity, their wages, another truck driver, fuel, grainsilo storage guy, their electricity, dont forget the farmer and his costs. I think I'll grow it myself.

2
deleted 2 points ago +2 / -0
0
whomurderedepstein 0 points ago +4 / -4

I geuss I would not call that food. Unless I'm cooking it, I won't touch that toxic cheap processed shit made in a factory. So you are correct, if you can tolerate processed food, no do not homestead. However, perceived food scarcity, real or imagined, will cause the price of even that shit to skyrocket over the next year. The industry will respond like they always do with even shittier lower quality food substitutes. I hear they can take carbon directly out of the atmosphere and make 'edible' chips now. A calorie is a calorie, right?

Kroger might as well BE Amazon or Walmart. “ The Kroger Company, or simply Kroger, is an American retail company founded by Bernard Kroger in 1883 in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is the United States' largest supermarket by revenue ($121.16 billion for fiscal year 2019), and the second-largest general retailer (behind Walmart ).”

5
PN_OShea 5 points ago +5 / -0

There are plenty of pissed off Conservatives (I won't defile them by calling them Republicans) left in Grand Rapids. I spent the holidays there with family. And while there are a lot of Lefties, I saw far, FAR more Trump signs there than Biden support. Like our Pedes in California, they are in occupied territory, fighting uphill against a totalitarian Governor who wants them dead.
The RINO that represents them they knew was a Deep State shill from the beginning, and like DeVoss was never going to back us when push came to shove.

Don't write off GR. What's happened to their voice is what they're trying to instill across the entire US.

What DOES need to happen is vocal and consistent boycott of the Meijer stores (and Meijer Gardens ,and anything else they have their mitts into).

HARASS, CONFRONT, BOYCOTT!

Give neither DNC nor RINO Traitors a moments respite. Assault and resist on all fronts. Even if our votes are useless, they require energy and resources to try and counter, drawing their attention away from things that will eventually undermine them.

We can TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY, if every SINGLE ONE of us is willing to stand up and yell. We can no longer be the silent majority. The Left set the rules of engagement - the only thing that will be heard is loud and continuous resistance with no compromise or quarter given.

Those are acceptable terms.
