We were hesitant to do this because of the social aspect. We are older pedes and growing up when we heard someone was homeschooled there was a serious issue with the kid. Now notsomuch. He is almost 3, so he never stepped foot in a school.

We are still wrestling with it purely for the social aspect but we will not sit by and watch people put their twisted version of reality into our son's head. Thankfully PA (currently) has school choice.

I really am posting for other pedes to think about this decision. I wish we had a maga online charter school

Teacherpede here. If you can homeschool, then do it. Our system crushes the joy out of learning and it isn't going to get better any time soon. Sometimes people run into issues if they have academically inclined kids, but aren't familiar with the chemistry, calculus, etc. Better to hire a tutor than to crush the soul out of them for 13 years. Also, be aware of college/scholarship requirements if your kid plans on going that route.

Also, many areas have homeschool groups where parents/kids get together and share resources and experience. Many states also allow your kid to participate in sports in the school you would be districted for, if you want to go that route. There are so many options for homeschooling right now. Kids who are actually educated this way do really well.

Just make sure your student isn't like many I end up getting - parents "homeschooled" but didn't do anything for 5 years and the kids end up back in public school, but screwed because they are in 10th grade, but read on a 2nd or 3rd grade level. Of course, I get more than a few of those who just came up through the system, too.
