Population in 2020: 328 million Population in 1960: 179 million

% pop < 45, 45-64, 65+ 2020: 58.2, 25.4, 16.5 % pop < 45, 45-64, 65+ 1960: 70.7, 20.1, 9.2

Covid deaths < 45: 8,800 Covid deaths 45-65: 54,400 Covid deaths 65+: 266,642

So if we take the covid population death rate from 2020 (covid deaths / total population) for each age group and multiply by the 1960 population for each age group, we get 110,899 deaths.

Estimated US deaths in 1957/1968 pandemics: 100k - 110K (each pandemic).

And I'm sure if you adjusted for levels of obesity, Covid would actually be less deadly than either the 1957 or 1968 pandemics.

So to protect the very old (many of which wouldn't have lived into their 80's or 90's 60 years ago) and the fat, we shut down our entire society.
