This has been incredibly painful to experience. The tech industry was an amazing place in the 90s, it really was a bunch of very independent thinker types. I think what happened was back then it was so hard to find tech help that techies could get away with anything. You could show up to meetings with a mohawk and a pink tie because nobody could fire you.
Now tech is overrun with HR departments and H1-Bs, techies have become so comfortable in their overpaid desk jobs their terrified of losing them.
Back in the 90s, the tech industry had a very libertarian bent. Now the tech industry is overrun with far-left crazies.

It also helps that the Tech industry has their large numbers of H1B employees....if they step out of line their work visa is revoked.
It's also very easy for foreign nationals to censor the free speech of Americans.
Far left crazies doesn’t even begin to describe what the management and staff of these companies is.
It’s overt communist propagandists at every level.

That explains why tech actually worked back then and runs like garbage now.
