Ooh. They taught high school English. They're thuper thmart.

Doesn't sound like they understood Orwell at all to me, and I've read 1984 several times.

Of course, if you believe it was an instruction manual, you might come to a different conclusion than I did.

Don't believe your lying eyes. Don't believe that Orwell, guys. Don't go read that little book. Close your eyes and never look!

OK, I teach HS English too. Provide me some evidence, good sir, of what resembles even a single dystopian element regarding the "Far-Right".

In 1984, the State controls all. There are 3 social classes; the Inner Party, Outer Party, and the Proles. ALL are conditioned to believe that the ongoing wars are perfectly normal, despite the warring factions switching in mid-war.

Winston, the protagonist, works for the Outer Party and spends most of his time altering/deleting news events. A coworker of his brags about the upcoming edition of a NewSpeak dictionary purposefully ELIMINATING WORDS (i.e. censorship) to make communication easier --- basically to avoid the infraction of wrongthink.

Is this somehow more aligned with the powerless (and voiceless) "Far-Right" than the Left fusing both Federal Government & BigTech?

: )

I'm a teacher, but I can't stand most teachers. They're now obsessed with social justice and dramatic emotional pablum.

Read it twice, understand it fully. Also understand that it was written after George Orwell visited Soviet Russia. He's talking about communist tactics.

Soviet Russia, the BBC and other UK socialist schemes, the sudden reversal of socialist feeling about the Nazis when they broke their alliance with Stalin, as well as the whole post-war rationing thing in the UK. Plus a nice dash of dystopian worldbuilding.

But feminists on the left claiming that all men are evil oppressors, and that PIV is bad? Nothing at all to do with the Anti-Junior-Sex League, comrades. That's totally the religious right. And we've always been at war with Eastasia.

Lol when high school teacher thinks reading curriculum notes makes her an expert in anything. Also, spending all your time around children leads to its own kind of regression in critical thought due to lack of having to compete daily with adults.

Has anyone checked to see if modern education isn't creating a mental illness among those who have to work a career in an infantile environment? Serious question.

There's a radio parody sequel to 1984, The Goon Show. episode "1985." Since they knew Orwell was already parodying the BBC to an extent, the Goons decided to turn it up to 11 and parody everything. Still relevant.

"1985" on Podomatic

In Orwell's classic novel 1984, Winston Smith participates in a required daily ritual called the Two Minutes Hate. The Two Minutes Hate is a daily exercise where all of the DemoKKKrat Party Members gather to vent their rage towards The Deep State's enemies (Christians, Conservatives, White people, Trump). The Party members sit next to each other and watch the face of Donald Trump flash onto the screen alongside marching enemy soldiers.

The image of Donald Trump speaks heretical remarks about The Deep State, which fills the DemoKKKrat Party members with rage, angst, and fear. During the Two Minutes Hate, the Party members behave hysterically by yelling, spitting, and venting their rage towards Trump and the enemies of The Deep State. Even Winston Smith cannot contain his emotions and finds himself screaming at the top of his lungs.

The Two Minutes Hate is designed to direct the suppressed anger of the DemoKKKrat Party members towards a scapegoat while simultaneously unifying the people against a common enemy. The typical feelings of angst, depression, and frustration that Party members experience on an everyday basis are directed outward, which protects the government and allows citizens to experience a visceral moment of rage.

During the Two Minutes Hate, Winston vents his rage towards the DemoKKKrat Party, The Deep State, and the Big Tech Thought Police while he is swept up in the hysterical environment. At the end of the Two Minutes Hate, The Deep State's images and slogans flash onto the screen, and the Party members break into a rhythmic chant of "B-B!...B-B!" while they experience a feeling of relief and security and begin doing the Jeffrey Toobin.
