I think this is an easy one to fill in. The psychotic attacks and smears woke a lot of people up to the fact we were slowly drifting into acceptance of slavery by the ruling elite class. Everyone woke up before ai became propagandized and used against you to convince you youre wrong and crazy and you didn't need your rights. the death throes of the establishment choked until the final coup where they had to come out in the open to show their tyranny over mankind in a desperate power grab over the executive branch.

The idea is it was going to happen regardless as it has these last 20 or so years, but now people have woken to it.
