I've never understood why that wasn't the standard practice. They could choose not to curate content that the platform doesn't like. However, banning, removal, etc. should have the law as the standard, not an arbitrary policy. That would be the "public square" approach. We can choose not to let you erect a billboard in the park, but we can't keep people from meeting in the park and talking to you.

yup, it would make more sense to just be a pipe like a phone company. no control over content, no legal liability other than to block illegal acts
