Yes, they are private, but they are receiving government concessions protecting them from defamation lawsuits. You can't have it both ways.

You are misunderstanding the ruling, which means the opposite of what you think it does. The courts ruled that Twitter, not Trump, could determine posting access and ability, thus the company and not the individual is in charge of the person's account...
