You just have to pass the PT test to get in, like all police departments. You don't have to maintain the fitness. I honestly think that's a mistake. The military sits on its ass quite a bit. In the army, for instance, the infantry is used for base upkeep, like cutting grass and shit. Even airborne. They have to maintain their fitness even though they might /never/ deploy. A police officer is on duty every day and could potentially run into a life threatening situation at any time.
