In reply to OP, is this not normal to have this many military aircraft flying around? Where I live, I see military aircraft in the air at almost any time in the day. Literally see them, as in, go outside and they are flying when I look up.
I read a month back around 250 in the air is normal. Could be wrong but it was low. Was the same webiste puc like this with ~1700 in the air at the time. So been a lot more than normal for at least a month
What is bizarre is that it was always in the open, they didn't even bother hiding it much. They had total confidence that the western political class would just betray the people.

The last time there were huge numbers like this was right after the election, and it was heavily weighted towards trainers. A huge blob of trainers was up for day in and day out right in the center of the country. Those blobs are not visible here - particular the one that persisted for quite some time in north Texas.
This is very different from the previous 1000+ planes activity days.
OTOH we might have had heavy fighter activity for a while, and just now they're all turning on their transponders. Kind of a "we may be politically unstable at the moment but if you think you can fuck with us you are badly mistaken" signal. Remember all this stuff is visible to the enemy too.

But who would be close enough to be a threat that we would be pulling expensive stunts like this? Surely we'd know if Chinese or Russian troops were close to the continent. I know for a fact that groups of Chinese pilots have been training here (Ontario, Nova Scotia) for years. I don't know to what extent if at all those programs intersect with the CCP's schemes of global domination.

Couple hours east of you. We got buzzed by a jet headed due east around 845am. Likely out of Wright Pat. Not low enough to scare people, but low enough that its shadow covered my entire vehicle. Remembering that is what led me to jump on the tracker.
Everyone please note: you have to unclcik the "P" icon to see current in flight aircraft. P is for Persistency and will continue to track birds on the ground, inflating your numbers. I actually brought this to Monkey Werx attention on a livestream a few weeks ago. He admitted to not know what the P button does. On a later post, he had looked into it and realized the error. Now he is more careful to let you know if he has it on or off when streaming.
It also puts aircraft back in that fell off radar for other reasons, hence being persistent. Seems like almost everything is moving, but there's probably 10-20% on the ground. Either way, never hurts to look at both screens.
That said: even if they are on the ground, they are obviously running electronics. If they turned off their master APU, they wouldn't be broadcasting at all.
I think that may be more of a function of the software rather than indicating it's still pinging. It's helpful when you want to know a final destination without having to sit and watch. The entire flight path will be recorded and available until you unclick P, even hours after landing.
On another note, about an hour ago I heard something flying low over the house. Tried to catch a view but I was too late. Hopped on the exchange and saw 2 K35 re-fuelers circling and coming back around. Grabbed my15 yo boy and dragged him out front and perfect timing, they both came directly overhead at about 3900 ft. It's a pretty cool toy, especially when your close to an AFB (MacDill).
I really wish I knew more about this stuff. I see things that catch my eye, but I've really only been doing this for a week so I have no idea if it's routine or not.

I can tell you that two flying command posts using the same callsign means they don't want somebody to know which one a VIP is in. Just like using the same license plate on every Presidential Limousine.

The military flights button is broken. It doesn't show fighter jets and many smaller military planes. Its great for looking at cargo plane movement and helos. There are a few private planes mixed in, but not enough to make a dent.

I saw a B-2 Spirit over I-70 in MO on Tuesday. It was maybe a couple thousand feet in the air. Crazy one airplane could be $737 million.
