What came to my mind when I first saw this was it could be a good way to provoke the CCP into attacking us - that in tandem of course with us dropping the one china policy and officially recognizing Taiwan as its own democracy.
If Trump can get them to attack us, it'll justify what the US generals want - an endless war with China. Trump gives them the war they want, Trump gets the generals on his side.
