Here's the very first thing I want you to do for me. Start growing your own food. Do it now and do not put it off. Start working to being able to produce 150% of what you will need year by year. You will need to start your seeds in February if you can. I know a lot of people can't meet this requirement but something is better than nothing. Why 150%, because your fellow Americans might have a bad crop. You will need to become your brother's keeper like we used to have to do. We need to bring back community and this is the first big step to achieving that. It's what they fear most is us being as one. We have been divided intentionally over decades. Don't be derisive and mocking at what I'm telling you. It is extremely important. I'd hate to see an American begging government cheese for what is coming in the near future. fyi, read up on raised bed gardening and self wicking tubs. (youtube -> Gardening with Leon -> wicking pots. Just as an example because his method is simple.)
If you can manage it get yourself some solar panels, batteries for them, and a converter (to charge the batteries) and an inverter (to pull the juice back out at 120v). It doesn't have to be the most expensive solar array, batteries, or other euqipment. It just has to work. I was amazed at what I could run on a sunny day with just 4 solar panels (not high current like air conditioning or electric heater sadly for my small array) but computers and stereo worked just fine (600-700 watts continuous from my 4 panels). Led bulbs (for night) and chest freezers for food can be easily powered in my scenario overnight. During the day I can run a lot more. Not everybody can do this but you know what? We can share with our neighbors we trust.
Get that goddamn smartphone isolated. Put it in a cookie tin (cheap soltion, and,, cookies) because it will act as a faraday cage (or, Amazon search farday bag). Meaning they cannot track you going down the road. And because the phone can't get GPS signals they cannot pull the tracking data (it's always recording) from your phone even if they do get the phone later. Yes, you'll have to relearn how to drive without your phone telling you where to turn. Block the microphone on the phone by wrapping it in a cloth or something while in that tin. It does not need the Internet to convert speech to text and you don't want everything you say recorded.
Start using 3nCryp+ion. How? Send you correspondance as a ".txt" document but 3nCryp+ it with 7zip (256bit AES 3nCryp+ion) before sending and attach it to the email (Make up some bullshit for the message). You can 3nCryp+ with a key (follow password complexity guidelines) that changes regularly and send it to however many 'family' members as you want. For the truly paranoid 3nCryp+ that 7zip file with WinZip password protected file saved as a zip. Makes it look less conspicuous. If they don't have the password key and you use high 3nCryp+ion they will not be able to D3cRyp++ that message. J3wle3un @55onnge I believe used 7zip (correct me if I'm wrong). High 3nCryp+ion is hard to break and at the very least if everybody is doing it their equipment would be overloaded no matter how hard they try and how many computers/servers they put on it. They could put the whole worlds computers on it and still be fucked.
Don't send messages via clear text in an email assuming SSL is going to protect you. They (the people you are worried about) have all of the SSL D3cRyp++ion keys (private keys). Don't think TOR will save you. They probably run many if not most of the intermediate servers in the TOR network and probably proxies at the demarcification points.
Use 3nCryp+3d volumes (3nCryp+3d files which can mount as a drive letter) to store files on and use portable apps running off of the 3nCryp+3d volume. Put those 3nCryp+3d volumes on portable drives (HDD or SSD) and have a backup volume on another portable drive just in case (that you keep on your person). For instance if your 3nCryp+3d volume is 100gigs you can fit that on an SDcard which will then easily go into your wallet. Your whole world on something smaller than your fingernail. If you lose it who cares, it's heavily 3nCryp+3d.
Running your apps as portable apps off on an 3nCryp+3d volume disconnects you from a dedicated computer. You can mount that 3nCryp+3d volume on 'any' computer then. Who cares if your computer is stolen, taken, stops working, etc. You can still operate. Watch the youtube video on the person who likely was responsible for Truecrypt. An IT person who became a very powerful drug lord. <chuckles in geek>
For the truly concerned and technical person who can use a virtual machine (which can also be run off of another 3nCryp+3d volume). Use something like virtualbox. Use a snapshot that you restore, at a minimum, every day. If you continually restore the snapshot they cannot permanently infect you with S+at3 malware, root, or virus programs. Easy protection. On the host machine disable any network connectivity and only use the virtual machine with the adapter bridged to access the internet. Laptop preferably. You can even connect to and use that encrypted external drive on the virtual machine via sharing the USB devices on the host computer.
