Trying to leave gmail because they are evil.

Folks had said protonmail, but it doesn't work with the native IOs mail app, so it's out. I need to sync a bunch of email accounts in one location, so I need to use the iPhone mail app to pull them all together.

I would love a service that doesn't require that I give my phone number when trying to sign up through tor.

Not a bad idea. I need to move a domain as well from google, maybe Epik is the place to go.

Sell your IPhone

Yes, that will happen eventually, but I still need mail in the interim. And no matter the phone, Proton Mail only works with the protonmail app, so it's a non-starter, iphone or not.

Bookmark their webpage in phone browser instead of using app?

Still doesn't solve my problem of syncing all my email accounts together in one view.

Most ISP's provide email (ATT, Charter, etc). Do you possibly have that option that you forgot????

1
SoldierOnFire [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, we have time warner, but we move a lot, so that's not an option since that ends when you leave the service area.

Makes sense... Maybe take a look at this page that talks about an IOS bridge app that allows you to POP, IMAP & SMTP with Proton. https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/imap-smtp-and-pop3-setup/

Yeah, I did. I can get it working with desktop, but not mobile apple mail. I think startmail is going to be a better fit for us. thank you.

Buy a Samsung and run your email through it until you can switch. Buy on of the older ones like an s8 on ebay used for like $100

Another possibility:

Startmail.com has 1/2 off until Feb. 8th (so about $30/1 year). They're privacy centered and based in the Netherlands.

Don't recall if it has phone # or not, but you can encrypt, create aliases, etc.

Wait, I don't think this works with the apple IOs native mail app. Do you know if it does?

1
reveries_aquatiques 1 point ago +1 / -0

no, sorry ... good luck.

[Maybe someone on a tech site like one of Rob Braxman's (The Internet Privacy Guy), might have sent in a similar inquiry...]

I’ll check that out!

Oh, this looks like it's what we are looking for. I think the european privacy standards are higher than the US, so I'd prefer to have their protections.

I have been using RADIO.FM (or RADIO.AM) for many years. A bit slow, but it cost like $35/year.

As far as I can tell, they independent and small enough that, they probably fly under most scrutiny weather.

I've never once heard them mentioned or reviewed in, probably 15 years of using them.

It is really just a dumb webmail system. It really is all you need.

I have heard hotmail is okay. But I would take that with a grain of salt.

Using native IOs mail DEFEATS purpose of ProtonMail - Security.

1
SoldierOnFire [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't know that I need the security so much as I just want to leave Google.

I was thinking about using this one in addition to what I currently use (which isn't gmail): https://runbox.com/

I haven't done a bunch of research on them, don't know their politics (or if they have any), but they don't require a phone number (it's optional), and they do IMAP and POP, which is what I needed that protonmail doesn't offer. It says: "Access via Web, POP, IMAP, SMTP, and WAP - Access your email securely using the Runbox Webmail or an email client on a computer or mobile device."

They do email? I thought that was an app.
