Ex union pacific conductor here I would see train loads of tanks, Humvees, etc pretty often it's not unusual at least going through the midwest on the mainline. Not sure if its abnormal for California.

Yeah, it's pretty normal actually. Fort Bliss is also relatively nearby so you'll see tons of armored vehicles transported to/from there as well.
