Has anyone ever sat down with a leftist and really tried to understand them? I don’t get how you can beat up a deaf woman in her 70s and think that you are the good guy. Even if you don’t like trump how can this be seen as normal? I really don’t understand their way of thinking.

The key is, Leftism has zero limiting principles (that’s how, if unrestrained, “let’s just share some wealth” will become secret police, death camps and mass starvation every time). So that’s how any means necessary becomes “attack defenseless old women... and the guy, as you said, insanely thinks he’s the good guy. No limiting principles means nothing you do is wrong if you do it for “the cause.”
And yes, I’ve talked to many Leftists. Although none were certifiably rabid, despite my genuine best efforts, I could never figure out how a smart, honest person could act believe that that ideology would ultimately bring anything but widespread misery, decay, and suffering.

If someone steals we all agree that it’s something bad but sometimes we can somehow understand why they do it. I just don’t get how they can think the same about beating up a old lady how do you build up sympathy for someone who does that? Rogers wife didn’t harm any of them why would they think that she somehow deserves that? How can someone become so hateful to people they have never met and probably never even heard speak or do anything. they are just complete strangers that have never done anything to them but they feel so much hate towards them and somehow think that they are the good once? It really makes no sense how they can not see how wrong it is they way they think

There are different tiers of lefties. They're not all completely nuts. High impulsivity variant (ever wonder why these "folks" are covered in shitty tattoos?) are the ones who end up in memes. Some are just what their own kind used to call "low information voters." In my opinion, the majority are people who "want to be on the right side of history" and have never been exposed to any history/news outside of pre-packaged news. Many such cases.
Hell, I used to be a "leftie" because I used to despise GWB Jr. during his administration, and I still do, also. Most people are just too busy with daily work/life shit to be inconvenienced by reality and they get their current events from NPR/MSM. Trump is 100% correct calling the MSM the enemy of the people.

Pretty much MSM brainwashing and a fugue state of being as a result. They're active human beings, but can't seem to have capacity to recognize hypocrisy in their thinking or actions. They see "fiery but mostly peaceful protests" juxtaposed with "terrorist puch on The Capitol," and that's what's recorded in the brain without much further processing. Not to say that they're all dumb people. Automatons can still do productive things.
A good (maybe shortly former) friend of mine was pretty openly hoping for violence against "Trumpers" during friendly conversation. I don't know what virus he caught, but he's a really bright guy and has his shit together (great education, great job). All I could respond with was that I have and continue to support Trump, and that he should be careful when wishing for political purges--because those winds can change quickly.
The left used to be about love & peace, at least in their minds. how times have changed... Sad thing is that he is willing to hurt random people if it advances a political party that doesn’t even care about him. They won’t lose sleep over if some crazy guy that kills a republican ends up doing life in prison they will just forget about him & move on. I’m telling you man if your ex friend was homeless and asked one of these Democrat politicians for a $1 than they would just pass by him without even noticing him but somehow he thinks that he has to care about these politicians to the point where he would hurt others that might stand in their way?
The love & peace thing was really all about personal convenience, not ever about trying to make the world a better place. Those fucking hippies just wanted to get laid. Marches and protests were a great place to meet chicks--they still are. These "good deeds" are still functioning on a base level of selfishness.
The real bifurcation in US politics, in my opinion, happened during the 2000 election. It got real nasty. Any decorum was thrown out of the window. And it got progressively super-slutty nasty in 2004. I blame GWB Jr. and that fat ugly bald muppet Karl Rove for it.
Now, we're at a point where dehumanizing "the opposition" among voters, not just politicians, is perfectly fine. Of course you'll find a few unhinged lunatics willing to pull stunts like this. Fortunately, it seems that at least people on the conservative side of things have better impulse control.
