I'm not that petty just because I have differing political views, I won't ask someone what their political views are or who they voted for, and while I may judge them for it I'm not going to just stop talking to them because of it.

If I had to guess why one side got so radicalized it's because of their age, a lot of these people in government are pushing 80-90 and are probably starting to realize they are going to die soon, so before they do die they want to try and hold ono power as long as they have left.
I think in the next 5 years we're going to see a lot of the long time politicians start dying out, Pelosi is already starting to show mental decline, which overall is a good thing, whether red or blue we need new blood in the system to hopefully undue a lot of the damage the current inhabitants of government have caused in their long overserved terms.

However, we are living in a time where peoples minds are poisoned and cannot accept that others can have a different view, idea, or belief. I know plenty of democrats and have no issue socializing with them. I understand that they have walked a different path than I have and what the democrats are selling is what they want. I even worked with a communist and he admitted it proudly, we would discuss political stuff all the time. We were mature enough to understand that we have had different experiences in life, therefor, have different views. Once people stop acting like children and can have actual discussions about ideas, we will have healed as a nation.
