Senate wont hold the trial till 20th, and after that we have a new senate with a Dem majority leader, and they are planning on holding trial after Trump leaves as President. It is unprecedented, but there is no law that says a past president cannot be impeached.
When Republicans had the senate+house, they should have impeached Obama for spying on Trump's campaign, but the cucked RINOS and the weak ass republicans didnt do shit. Infact Trump's first impeachment was for impeding Biden, and Obama did the same thing in 2016 by spying on Trump, but only worse.

I think it is desperation and terror - like a drowning victim. The majority won't be brought down - at least not by this - it else you can bet they would have the votes in both Houses.
Yeah this is my thought too. IMHO the dems know that they are boned and our great POTUS will still be in charge on the 21st. I have to give it to them, Congress can be efficient when they want to be. Since they can not be arrested on the floor of the House or Senate, I think a good strategy would be just to nail shut every exit to both chambers, leave the cameras going but cut the sound, and have a year long pay per view of them eating each other to survive. Anyone left standing gets a free plane ticket home and we send a team in to clean everything up while a fairly elected group is readied to take up those jobs.
The Dems and maybe McConnel would last the longest.

According to Robert Barnes, (and I think also Alan Dershowitz), the Constitution says that once a president leaves office, he can no longer be impeached as he is a private citizen. That said, I'm curious how James Clyburn thinks he's able to postpone the Senate vote on impeachment until after Biden's first 100 days in office. My wife has said he's impeached already because the House voted on it but I countered with if there's no trial, there can't be a legitimate impeachment as the process hasn't been completed. Unless I'm understanding that incorrectly.

I respect Barnes he was right on a lot of stuff, but even he knows that the dems don’t abide by any constitution.
Your wife is right, he is impeached and the senate holds a trial and votes to remove him from office. But the impeachment process is more or less a sham, and so is most of what congress does. It has a 15% approval rating.

I think he said its inappropriate, but there is no express bar as per the law for a senate to impeach a past president.
