He spoke far too much. He also failed to ask for a lawyer right away and he failed to say he was invoking the 5th. When detained you must to do both of those things and then shut the fuck up. It is not enough to just say nothing, you need to invoke that right.

"I wish to speak to a lawyer, I am invoking my right to remain silent and wish the interrogation to cease until a lawyer is present".

If you answer questions after being read your rights, that is the same thing as waving them. Once you invoke your rights the interrogation must end.

You pedes see how these interrogations work? They try to get you to answer questions, starting with small ones like if you understand your rights to get answering questions normalized, if you answer questions it is viewed as you waving your rights. Very critical to understand that.

If you are detained and not charged, you need to understand that the police have a limited time to charge you or to free you. There is a good chance they do not have evidence to charge you which is why they are looking for you to provide more.

The reason why he was arrested and even in that room was likely because of what he said to the cops earlier.
