I could be wrong but I don’t specifically remember Dr Fauci coming down hard on hydroxychloroquine. I know he went on to promote other therapeutics, which since 2005 (the time that article was published) may produce better outcomes than using hydroxychloroquine.

I know all the non doctor talking heads across multiple media platforms spazzed out incessantly about it.

My memory of it could be wrong though.
