None of them have magazines in their weapons.

If we were running around ready to go, we'd be locked/loaded.

magazines in their weapons

a magazine is easy to put in a weapon. Where is the ammunition , how soon can it be distributed ?

That's my point. If we were going in "armed" we'd be carrying a basic load.

my question is: "do these troops have live rounds on their person ? Are there live rounds staged in the area for quick access ? "

It is common for military to be in a phase of no mag loaded, even on military bases. Mags are loaded usually in overseas FOBs & COPs. They have mags on them, just not loaded into the gun. Takes 2 seconds to load it though lol.

I was in during peacetime, we only ever had loaded mags at the range
