It's ballsy to admit to your employer that you were part of what the media is calling "riots." This would have probably avoided OP from getting fired... not that they were justified in firing him regardless.

My best guess is since I brought my laptop to DC they were able to track the hardware, as it contains highly sensitive information.

This is what makes me mad. If you weren’t blasting it all over your social media or were being a MAGA evangelist at work, then you aren’t giving your company a bad or controversial name.
