I completely agree, and the worst part of it all is I don't think I'm entirely that smart myself. Sad.

6
UltimateMastermind 6 points ago +6 / -0

This. I don't thing there is such a propaganda in my country yet but when some "expert" talks about something happening in US it's beyond cringe for me. I just can't take that bullcrap. They are so fricking off of the real situation. And they are so sure about it. Our politicians have zero idea wtf is going on. They watch CNN and think they got big picture. So sad. But I am visiting TDW, zerohedge etc. so it is a big difference.

HiddenHand 1 point ago +1 / -0

I bet they are arrogant as well, eh? Same over here, it's infuriating listening to these "international politics" segments, which actually just means Trump bashing.

A smart person knows enough to realize how little they do know

17
this_mortal_coil 17 points ago +17 / -0

I end up scratching my head a lot. I'm smart, but not that smart. I just look into things. It's mind boggling at first when you realize even the high IQ ppl have no fucking clue what is going on around them. I'm a humble person, and don't like to assume I'm right, but when I talk to the high ups where I work (executives in an 11 figure outfit) and all they can do is parrot MSM narratives...well, it's makes me realize that engaging in reality is now the counterculture. Orwell was right with the whole bit about telling the truth being a revolutionary act.

5
Midlifezombie2020 5 points ago +5 / -0

You're right about a lot. I'm smart, with two degrees and being a conservative librarian, it blows my mind how they try to explain away fake news as being something other than MSM. I am inudated with lefties in my profession and have to tread lightly. However, they are oblivious to all the agenda spewing MSM narratives. I will say it's hard to red pill librarians. My wife is one as well as refuses to see the fraud. However, she also is one who would rather not go down rabbit holes and likes being naive.

I truly believe that those high IQ people are too smart for their own good. Not to mention people who have high IQ don't necessarily have high IQ street smarts. I think that's where i differ. I am smart but more real world street smarts than book.smart. not to mention I question everything.

1
Nimblestpepe 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think its easy for high iq people to lie to themselves or find a way to justify anything they observe.

1
this_mortal_coil 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think the 'question everything' part is the key. It's like this happens, and then that happens, and then something else happens. They don't look at things cohesively, or who might benefit from specific actions and narratives. It's just hard for me. I am always skeptical about whether I'm right or not and that plays right into the normies hands too, because they are quite certain they are correct: the media and their social conditioning tells them every minute of every day that they are right. It plays hell with my mental health.

1
Midlifezombie2020 1 point ago +1 / -0

Your mental health and mine as well. But it keeps me going. I refuse to lay down as I want justice! Whether it's 9/11, the Egyptian Pyramids (way older than stated) or this. I want the truth. And maybe I can't handle the truth, but I'd still want it all out in the open for everyone to decide for themselves.

Depends where you score high. I was tested when I was pretty young. I scored 153 verbal IQ but non verbal I was 129. I personally think the non verbal should have been lower because I just can't algebra or math in general lol. I was the only kid in gifted, AP English and history but remedial math. Then again, "the masses are asses." Some of us come right out of the gate questioning things but most fall in line with the rest.

2
this_mortal_coil 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm similar. I found out a few years ago I was donor conceived. My bio father is a doctor, and my mom has a doctoral degree. I think my donor probably gives me the high verbal IQ, but my spatial intelligence is probably average or below average. I also grew up in a social environment where a lot of high brow conversations took place, but where I was taught to question narratives about everything. A lot of family is not "educated" in the traditional sense, which over time I've come to understand as a positive. However, being a skeptic about everything makes it hard to maintain social relationships, so I pretty much just gave up; no one wants to play the game on this level, or very few.

Most people don't want to talk about what's really going on, getting into the facts and details. It's mainly MSM political talking points or Netflix shows.

I'm gonna go on a rant here. It really comes down to the balkanization of information that starts with the education system. John Taylor Gatto has some great work on this. Our society is based on the Prussian model of operant conditioning. School is divided into distinct "subjects" but these are never put together into a cohesive whole. The bells even delineate when one area of inquiry stops, and the students are shuffled to another area where a different area of inquiry begins. The origins come from when the Prussians were defeated by the Grand Armee of Napolean. The Prussians sought to stratify their society in a such a way that this could never happen again.

The Germans had a distinctive medieval and militaristic bend, due to 100 years of religious warfare and skipping most of the Enightenment. With the new behaviorist science of Wundt, Pavlov, and others they figured out that the best way to make people compliant in a system was to use reward/punishment rather than using the building blocks of grammar, logic, and rhetoric that was taught to the elites from the time of Hermes, through Plato, and on up through the Church. The aristocrats were on top, and then a 2% class of "managers" who were educated in the elite schools, and then a class of 98% that were "workers."

The complete shattering of the education system in this way, which the US and others have adopted, with a Marxist overlay on top of it that has destroyed the family and religious systems has made any real pushback impossible. What's left if you've blown out reasoning from first principles and the reinforcement from a society based on values? Seems to me it's mindless entertainment and base level fulfillment: if it feels good, well then it must be right. The complicated details of how to run a society are best left to that 2% managerial class that went to Harvard, Yale, MIT, Columbia, etc.

The masses lack of involvement in shaping values and thought has led us into this mess. Even the churches have been infiltrated by this madness since the Rockefellers created the World Council of Churches. The medical profession has the AMA, the CDC and others; law has the ABA, and academia has gatekeepers that hang tenure over wrongthinkers heads. This hasn't happened by accident: we are seeing the zombification of our society (and the entire world) on purpose. They want us to sit around talking about propaganda and mindless bullshit.

The stupidity of society is at an all time high! Even with all the technological advances we made ( we literally have a portable computer in our pockets holding vast amount of information from around the world), I feel people are getting dumber and dumber by the second.

1
DeadOverRed 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's why they're getting dumber. They never had to learn to think.

1
Midlifezombie2020 1 point ago +1 / -0

Indeed. And they think because it's on the internet, it's true. They do not know how to think independently or critically think.

People in average are pretty dumb, that's a statistical fact.

They believe masks save us from COVID, they believe Biden legitimately won, they believe the media's lies.

You're not wrong to think you are smarter than them.

2
TearofLys 2 points ago +2 / -0

I just think the majority of people lack the ability to think critically. They just depend on an authoritative source to do that for them, which is fine if that authoritative source is genuinely trying to discern truth, but once that source starts to use its position to gaslight, we get this - large parts of the population believing the propaganda.

We shouldn't hold ourselves up to other people, rather we should hold ourselves up to ourselves. Then, you can be disappointed in your own ignorance, which is of course something you can work to amend.

This is the way.

LOWERED EXPECTATIONS was a great Mad tv bit but now it’s minute to minute life.

If this experience has taught me anything it been watching people reveal themselves through their cowardice, betrayal and weakness. Truly how the sausage is made.

Also you may be a Virgo. The perfectionism is rough and the lack of loyalty and reciprocity from others will continue to sting while you try to swim through mediocrity.

I didn’t used to think that astrology stuff had much weight - but everything else on the planet seems to operate based on getting in and out of the cooter so why not your personality traits, right?

1
VerGreeneyes 1 point ago +1 / -0

Maybe, but remember that having a higher IQ isn't equivalent to having a better handle on the truth. People with a higher IQ are also better at lying to themselves (just look at all the leftist academics).

The reason that universal suffrage usually works out is that even if they can't articulate their reasoning, people usually still have decent gut instincts. It's just that right now, for a lot of people that instinct is being subverted by a constant barrage of media propaganda.

You need to change your social circles and find people who are smarter than you. Though continuing to interact with those who live cluelessly, may help a few change and grow. Balancing time between the two prevents one from becoming so jaded. Still expect more from everyone... People tend to rise or fall to the level of your expectations. And, lastly, accept that people and life will disappoint you... suck it up buttercup! ;)

One of the smartest guys I know is a double STEM degree + masters tech professional. He grasps and solves problems dumped on the table faster than almost anyone. He gets paid a fortune and is flown all over the civilized world for his opinions. I highly value anything he has to say to me.

He’s been pretty silent and patient on politics. Something about the news doesn’t feel right to him, but beyond that he isn’t sure. He’s not a raging TDS case, but talking about politics never goes well. At his core he’s a traditional classical liberal, and has failed to see that liberal no longer means what it once did.

For me it’s not about smarts. Lots of leftists are plenty smart. It’s like their bullshit radar has been broken. It’s like they’ve had peripheral blinders put on and they don’t know it because it happened to us over several decades.

I’ve lost almost everyone by supporting Trump. I will continue to support him but on a more practical level. The people I love need to open their own eyes, and I will be there for them should they ever decide to. Until then I support and volunteer for true conservative causes, and raise my children to be ready.
