Ya, I grew up in Utah. BYU students would just marry in Las Vegas, have sex and then undo the marriage.
I always chuckled at the back door loophole. "I let men fuck my asshole I don't really enjoy much or is very painful, so no one thinks I'm a slut." But at least it helps avoid teen pregnancy and single mothers, which is more about why I support marriage before sex.. It's more about securing a solid family for the child.
The point of ancient taboos on sex was to prevent starving children and mothers. It's also why before government food assistance men were beat within an inch of their life for trying to abandon their family. It was akin to murder.
Can verify; skirting the "rules" and avoiding pregnancy. Always thought it was kinda missing the point... I had already caved at that point; sadly, my hypocrisy knows no bounds when it came to sex. I repent like mad, if that helps...
I've had plenty of sex outside of marriage, I don't feel it's too hypocritical because I never had sex with someone I wasn't willing to have a child with and genuinely enjoy the slow courtship process to build that friendship bond.
But I understand most aren't like this and the expectation of marriage before sex was the solution to that problem of human nature.
When I was a teen, if a guy wanted anal sex with his girlfriend. We all just assumed he was gay and in the closet.
My sibling went to a private christian college for a year to play football, then transferred.
If you graduated/stayed all four years it was 80% likely you would marry a fellow undergrad.
An overwhelming majority of the couples there practiced the back door loop hole to preserve their virginity.
I don’t know what you should make of that, just found it fascinating.

The endless irony that the institutions designed to protect women was destroyed by women. Great job, ladies.

I think you're onto something.
