My hot take, we have had our tooth brushes on the counter for decades, same with these hand dryers. Yet we haven’t suffered a colossal pandemic from them. Germs are not the most dangerous thing on this planet. Don’t be gross but don’t spend your whole life trying to eradicate them.

There is not a germ or virus on earth as dangerous as a Communist and we're surrounded by them.
I just close the toilet lid when I flush and hope for the best!
To the contrary, a regular (not gross, as you say) exposure to pathogens is not only normal but healthy.

My toilet is in a separate room from the rest of my bathroom.
I will never use a restroom dryer again.
